Sustainable construction: Urbem builds structure for new Leo Madeiras store

Urbem takes another important step in establishing engineered wood as an innovative and sustainable solution for civil construction in Brazil.
The company was responsible for supplying and assembling the structure of the new Leo Madeiras store in Pinheiros (São Paulo), in a project that celebrated the 80th anniversary of the renowned woodworking brand.

Located on Rua Paes Leme, the store underwent a significant expansion with the construction of a new stock area and administrative sector. The project stood out as the first assembly carried out by Urbem’s own team, marking a historic milestone for the company.

High performance with sustainability

The new structure was designed to support heavy loads (up to 500 kg/m2) and span large distances — up to 12 meters — without interrupting the store’s operation during construction. In total, 505 beams, 162 columns, and 1,040 GLULAM (glued laminated timber) blank pieces were used, totaling 148m³ of engineered wood.

Beyond technical efficiency, the project also had a positive environmental impact: the structure captured approximately 115 tons of CO₂ from the atmosphere, reinforcing Urbem’s commitment to sustainability and reducing the carbon footprint in construction.

Clean, fast, and efficient execution

With a 667 m² site and up to eight workers operating simultaneously, the entire assembly was completed in just 90 days. All the trusses were assembled on-site in a clean and organized environment with zero waste generation and high logistical efficiency.

Another highlight was the use of engineered wood in a hybrid system, incorporating other materials such as cement boards for flooring and drywall for partitioning. The result was an industrialized, fast, safe, and high-performance construction.

A complete delivery

For Ana Belizário, Urbem’s Commercial Director, the project represents a major milestone for the company:

“This project was an opportunity to showcase not only the technical efficiency of engineered wood but also our full delivery capability — from supply to assembly. Being part of such a symbolic moment for Leo Madeiras strengthens the market’s growing confidence in more sustainable and innovative construction solutions,” she says.
