Urbem is a Brazilian company specialized in the manufacture of dimensional lumber and mass timber products from Southern Yellow Pine. The company is setting up the first large scale mass timber industry in South America with an annual production capacity of 100,000 m³ of mass timber products (CLT and glulam) and 50,000 m³ of dimensional lumber.
The timber used to manufacture Urbem’s products is obtained from planted forests with FSC certification. The plant is scheduled to start operating in 2022 using the state of art technology to meet costumer’s needs.
Urbem is the result of the will to build a future with a regenerative forest matrix. To create and offer materials and technology that bring positive impacts to the environment and to people living in cities. From the desire to be part of civil construction market, towards efficiency and sustainability.
This change involves including the material wood, an ancient raw material dedicated to sustaining, in Brazilian engineering, alongside materials such as concrete and steel, working in a hybrid manner and exploring the benefits and potential of each material. Combining knowledge and technique, engineered wood is a robust, efficient and sustainable construction solution. We believe that the forest has the power to regenerate the city.
This movement is only possible with the collaboration of several actors – architects, engineers, builders, developers, investors and residents – who envision the same future. With new paths for the identity and aesthetics of architecture and with cities that prioritize the quality of life of those who inhabit them.

High technology and innovation in Brazil
Our plant is expected to deliver its first orders in the second half of 2022. We will have a production capacity of 100,000 m³/year of mass timber products (CLT and Glulam) and 50,000 m³/year of S4S Urbem Class.
Our production will be divided into the following products: CLT (Cross Laminated Timber) panels, Glulam (Glued Laminated Wood) and S4S Urbem Class (dimensional lumber mechanically graded).
Urbem’s raw material is Southeern Yellow Pine (loblolly pine), a coniferous species with good productivity rates in Brazilian soil, in addition to excellent technical performance.

S4S URBEM CLASS
S4S Urbem Class: dimensional lumber of Southern Yellow Pine (SP) surfaced on four sides, kiln dried to a Moisture Content (MC) of 12% (± 2%) and mechanically graded (MSR). S4S Urbem Class can be treated by impregnation on autoclave (CCA, CCB and MCA-C) to resist to decay and termites.
GLULAM
Glue-laminated timber (glulam): mass timber product manufactured from bonding of wooden lamellae oriented in the same direction, resulting in linear structural elements used as beams and columns. Urbem glulam are produced with mechanically graded (MSR) Southern Yellow Pine lamellae glued together with structural adhesive (PUR) free from formaldehyde. Glulam beams and columns produced by Urbem can be treated by impregnation on autoclave (CCA, CCB and MCA-C) to resist to decay and termites.
CLT
Cross-laminated timber (CLT): mass timber product manufactured by gluing wooden lamellae in layers orthogonal to each other, resulting in panels used as slabs and walls. The CLT panels from Ubem are produced with mechanically graded (MSR) Southern Yellow Pine lamellae bonded together with structural adhesive (PUR) free from formaldehyde. Urbem CLT can also be treated on autoclave (CCA, CCB and MCA-C) to resist to decay and termites.
