WOODEN RESTAURANT BUILT IN LESS THAN A MONTH

Engineered wood is an undeniable ally of sustainability, but its ecological footprint isn’t its only benefit. Its versatility and speed make it a standout choice for those in need of quick projects.

A perfect example of these benefits of engineered wood, or mass timber, is the Ostara restaurant, a structure built within the Monte Astral Winery in Farroupilha, Rio Grande do Sul. This incredible project was developed by Trino Arquitetura, designed by architect, urban planner, and designer Lisiara Camargo Simon, with startup Noah as the developer.

THE OSTARA RESTAURANT:

Combining sustainability, technology, and speed, the construction was conceived with engineered wood from the outset to cater to both national and international tourism in the region with an exclusive, intimate, and biophilic environment.

At the center of the restaurant, in the heart of Ostara, stands a large tree that symbolizes the tree of life, surrounded by herbs and flowers typical of the region. This further evokes a sense of belonging with its vibrant nature, natural lighting, and cross ventilation.

the mass timber:

The project features approximately 100m³ of Urbem engineered wood in total, including over 30m³ of GLULAM (Glued Laminated Timber) in its beams and columns, and nearly 70m³ of CLT (Cross Laminated Timber) used for slabs or walls. Thanks to the material’s prefabrication and machining, the construction was completed rapidly, taking just 29 days to build.

This type of material aligns well with the Lean Construction methodology, as it generates no waste and enables a cleaner, safer, and more efficient construction site.

PARTNERS FOR THE FUTURE:

To execute a project like this, it is essential to have partners who share the same ideals and goals—and that’s precisely what Fernanda and Paulo Cesar Rutzen did.

With the startup Noah in charge of construction and assembly, they demonstrated to the market that it is possible to develop high-end sustainable projects across various sectors, as highlighted by Nicolaos Theodorakis, founder and CEO of Noah.

In addition, they chose Urbem’s engineered wood, a product that undergoes rigorous quality control and is carefully produced with social responsibility and respect for the environment at every stage.

Mass timber is a technology of the future, an excellent option for reducing the environmental impact of the construction industry, while also providing a fast alternative for those who need quick projects and dynamic deliveries.

The material offers numerous benefits, and by further exploring this technology, it’s possible to maximize its positive impacts on the world—and especially on your project.
