New Recreational Space at Parque do Carmo Combines Sustainability and Well-Being

A 1,445 m² mass timber structure demonstrates how sustainable construction can create a positive impact for people and the environment.

Parque do Carmo, in São Paulo’s East Zone, has just gained a new recreational space that highlights the transformative potential of architecture when combined with sustainability. With a 1,445 m² mass timber structure, the project includes kiosks, locker rooms, bleachers, and access areas—creating a welcoming, functional environment that blends with the surrounding green landscape.

Precision and Sustainability with Mass Timber

The project was executed by Urbem, a national reference in the use of mass timber in construction. The assembly was carried out with high precision, agility, and excellent finishing. Choosing an industrialized building system reinforces a new approach to urban architecture, combining technical performance, reduced waste, and a lower carbon footprint.

“This project shows, in practice, how wood can contribute to cleaner worksites, with less environmental impact, while also creating more welcoming spaces for the community,” says Ana Belizário, Commercial Director at Urbem.

Sustainable Urbanism in São Paulo

The initiative at Parque do Carmo adds to other projects reshaping São Paulo’s urban landscape with a focus on sustainability and collective well-being. One example is the recently inaugurated Parque Morumbi Sul, in Campo Limpo, on the city’s south side, which underwent 84,000 m² of redevelopment with a public investment of R$15 million. Urbem also contributed to this transformation, delivering the city’s first park with complete mass timber structures, including a multi-use pavilion, walkways, security posts, and accessible facilities.

Mass Timber: The Future of Sustainable Construction

Mass timber has proven to be a powerful ally in creating more human and sustainable public spaces. In urban parks, it enables welcoming structures that integrate with nature, while reducing environmental impact and increasing efficiency during construction,” concludes Ana Belizário.
