Edifício Ibá represents a significant technical advancement for the construction industry in São Paulo by adopting mass timber as the primary structural system for a mid-rise residential building. Located in the Jardim Paulista neighborhood, the project explores the structural, industrial, and environmental performance of timber within a consolidated urban context.
With seven storeys and scheduled for completion in 2028, the building is organized with one residential unit per floor, ranging in size from 112 m² to 222 m². The use of mass timber enables a high level of dimensional accuracy and quality control through component industrialization, while also reducing material waste, on-site disruption, and foundation demands due to its lower structural mass compared to conventional systems.
The architectural and interior design, developed by estúdio bg, is based entirely on the use of mass timber, integrating it efficiently into both the structural and spatial solutions of the building.
Edifício Ibá stands out as an example of innovation in the application of mass timber in vertical residential construction. The project demonstrates how more efficient and sustainable building technologies can reshape urban architecture, delivering lighter structures with reduced environmental impact.
