Open Mall Praça Pitiguari, located in Atibaia, is currently a benchmark for large-scale mass timber application in commercial architecture. With more than
1,300 m³ of CLT (Cross Laminated Timber) and Glulam (Glued Laminated Timber), it is the largest development in Latin America built using this technology, combining high performance, sustainability, and process industrialization.
The entire structural system was designed using prefabricated solutions, enabling a cleaner, faster, and more precise construction process. Sourced from certified forests, mass timber delivers structural performance comparable to concrete and steel, while being up to five times lighter—significantly reducing impacts on the construction site and foundation systems.
The project incorporates passive comfort strategies, such as long clear spans, cross ventilation, and extensive use of natural daylight. In addition, the use of timber avoided the emission of more than 900 tons of carbon, reinforcing the project’s commitment to sustainable construction practices.
More than a shopping and leisure destination, Praça Pitiguari stands as an icon of innovation, efficiency, and environmental responsibility, demonstrating in practice the potential of engineered timber to transform the construction industry in Brazil.
