And what if the world’s biggest brands started to feel the impact of ESG and saw the real need to think and act more sustainably?<\/p>\n

This is already a reality, as society’s concern for the environment is growing, and consequently, there is an increasing demand for these major brands to do things differently, to think outside the box.
\nThis has also been the case for one of the largest fast-food chains. The brand began its sustainability journey back in 2018<\/a>\u00a0with the implementation of the Recipe for the Future, the same time the brand started the process of reducing plastic. Since then, the company has reduced its consumption of the material by 48%.<\/a><\/p>\n

Among the brand’s initiatives is the construction of more sustainable units, and the best choice for this is mass timber<\/a>, a sustainable option with a competitive price (thanks to Urbem’s supply) that could become the mainstay of future units as stated by Rog\u00e9rio Barreira<\/a>, president of Arcos Dorados’ Brazil Division.<\/p>\n

THE RECIPE FOR THE FUTURE<\/strong><\/h3>\n

This project aims to commit to playing a problem-solving role in current social issues. Currently, they are working with 6 pillars<\/a>:<\/p>\n

  2. Minimizing environmental impacts and climate change;<\/li>\n
  3. Using renewable materials;<\/li>\n
  4. Sourcing ingredients produced with respect for the environment;<\/li>\n
  5. Committing to families and their well-being;<\/li>\n
  6. Promoting diverse teams and respect for everyone.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    GET TO KNOW THE SUSTAINABLE MC DONALD’S UNIT<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n

    This unit is located at Av. Bernardino de Campos, 307, near the Para\u00edso metro station and Avenida Paulista. It was entirely constructed with mass timber, recycled materials, and is completely powered by renewable energy.<\/p>\n

    One of its biggest highlights is immersing customers in a sustainable environment, offering an experience guided by a yellow path and an interactive map that leads them to 12 points in the restaurant showcasing the company’s positive impact initiatives via QR codes.<\/p>\n

    The unit boasts over 500m\u00b2 of constructed area, using approximately 99m\u00b3 of Urbem CLT (Cross Laminated Timber) for slabs and walls, and over 41m\u00b3 of Urbem GLULAM (Glued Laminated Timber), a structural material used for beams and pillars.<\/p>\n

    Urbem is proud to have been part of such a significant moment for sustainability, and we are excited about the possibility of more units like this in the future!<\/p>\n
